Project Overview
The Malthouse is a unique project for up to 8 men who have completed a suitable recovery programme and who recognise that they would benefit from further work within a structured residential programme. There they can carry on their journey at the right pace to ensure they do not relapse and they are able to gain the skills they need to plan their move on and reintegration.
We provide an in-depth programme of recovery and relapse prevention, through groups, key working and counselling. We also offer help with life skills and on-site training in numeracy, literacy and computer skills. We encourage and support training, volunteering and community activities, to help achieve and maintain a new life in the community.
The typical length of stay is 6 to 12 months.
This short film introduces the Malthouse Project and some ex residents tell of their experience.
Setting
The Malthouse is a cottage situated in the town of Uckfield in East Sussex. It offers good access to local amenities and strong community links.
There are two meetings of AA in town, and there is a bus service to Brighton where there are many AA, NA, and CA meetings. There is a local adult education college, a swimming pool/gym, a cinema and the vast Ashdown forest. It is an ideal place for reintegration into the community and meaningful activities, with low risk compared to a city environment.
