Bourne to Ride; a charity fundraiser on a mower!

Colin from Bourne to Garden & David Withers from Iseki

The team at Bourne to Garden are endeavouring to travel on a ride-on-mower 880 miles from Lands End to John O’Groats within five days!

Setting off from Lands End on Monday 27 June aiming to reach John O Groats by Friday 1 July in a gruelling challenge but for worthwhile causes.

Colin, Managing Director of Bourne to Garden says, “The idea started from wanting to raise money for MNDA, following my wife’s late father suffering with this illness. I wanted to do something a bit different to raise awareness but also raise money for the research this charity funds into this cruel disease. As I own a company that uses tractors and mowers all day long maintaining holiday parks, sports fields, community areas, schools and colleges across the South East, I did some research on mower challenges and discovered the current Guinness Book of Records holder for this challenge achieved a 874 mile route in 5 days, 8 hours and 36 minutes with an average speed of 9mph. This seemed a perfect fit and Bourne to Ride was born!“

They are doing this to raise money for MDNA, The Masonic Charitable Foundation and Kenward Trust, and we are so grateful to be included.

The challenge is being supported by Iseki, one of the leading Worldwide manufacturers of mowers and compact tractors. To supply proof for the Guinness World Record attempt, the lawnmower will be fitted with a tracking system from Izeki Operations Centre who are able to track Colin’s entire journey via software. The resulting data is the proof needed to verify Colin’s route and travelling time as a Guinness World Records success. In addition, members of the public will be asked to complete a log, stating the time, date and their location.

This is a fantastic and rather unique way of fundraising, so we will be monitoring their progress over their journey and keeping you all updated.
