Joel's Story: Breaking free from ketamine addiction

Josh never imagined he would reach a point where he felt he couldn't go on.

Joel

For years, Joel's life was dominated by ketamine addiction and the devastating impact it had on his physical and mental health.

He had been admitted to hospital more than 100 times with severe pain, cramps, and complications caused by his drug use. The pain became so intense that ketamine itself was the only thing that seemed to offer relief, trapping him in a cycle he couldn't escape.

"The pain was excruciating."

As his addiction worsened, Joel struggled with suicidal thoughts and reached a point where he no longer wanted to live with the pain. He describes feeling hopeless, unable to imagine a future without drugs.

Everything began to change when Joel entered treatment at Kenward Trust.

Supported by staff, therapy, and a community of people who understood addiction, Joel gradually began rebuilding his health, confidence, and sense of self. For the first time in a long time, he felt cared for, supported, and hopeful about the future.

Today, Joel is in recovery and focused on building a different life. Looking back, he is passionate about helping others understand the realities of ketamine addiction and encouraging people to seek help before the damage becomes irreversible.

"Just get help."

Joel's story is a powerful reminder that recovery is possible, even when addiction has taken you to your lowest point.
