Kenward Trust Celebrates the Success Story of Paul R
Kenward Trust is proud to celebrate the success story of one of its longest-serving residents, Paul R. After four years of hard work, determination, and incredible personal growth, Paul has moved on from Kenward Trust’s Resettlement Stage 3 and has been successfully housed by social services.
Paul’s journey to recovery began in 2019 when he first came to Kenward House after years of homelessness in Brighton. For over 30 years, Paul struggled with deep-rooted issues related to drug and alcohol dependency. During his time on the streets, he witnessed the devastating effects of addiction on those around him, many of whom tragically passed away. Despite facing serious physical and health challenges, Paul was determined to turn his life around, and Kenward Trust was there to support him every step of the way.
Over the years, Paul received unwavering care and support from Kenward Trust staff, particularly from his key worker, Sam Hopper. Their commitment to helping Paul lay a solid foundation for his recovery in Stage 1 was pivotal in helping him take his first steps toward a better future. Throughout his time at Kenward, Paul often spoke of the love and compassion he received from the staff, who were dedicated to helping him rebuild his life.
Paul’s journey continued through Resettlement Stages 2 and 3, where he became an active participant in the Alcoholics Anonymous fellowship. His passion for recovery, combined with his enthusiasm for helping others, became a beacon of hope for those around him. Despite occasional challenges, Paul’s resilience and gratitude kept him on track, and he was never without support from the dedicated staff, both day and night.
Recognising that Paul’s needs had evolved and that Kenward Trust’s services were no longer the best fit for his future, a referral to social services was made earlier this year. In partnership with the social services team, Paul was introduced to Bentley Grange, an extra care facility in Hailsham, where he was assessed and shown around his new two-bedroom flat. The moment Paul saw his new home, he was overcome with emotion, as it marked the first time he had ever had his own front door.
On January 30th, Paul made the emotional move to Bentley Grange. During the journey to his new home, Paul expressed his immense gratitude for the support he had received at Kenward Trust, sharing how it had shaped his recovery. He also reflected on his journey with the team, making it clear that this was not a farewell but a "see you soon." Paul will continue to stay involved with Kenward Trust, returning soon to share his story and offer support to others.
Kenward Trust is incredibly proud of Paul’s remarkable transformation and is grateful to have played a role in his recovery. This success story is a testament to the dedication and compassion of the Kenward Trust staff, whose tireless efforts have made a profound impact on Paul’s life.
At Kenward Trust, we are committed to helping individuals like Paul reclaim their lives and create new, brighter futures. We are honoured to have been part of his journey, and we look forward to the next chapter in his life as he begins his new journey with a sense of independence and hope for the future.
