Kenward Trust encourages Kent to take on the Sober October challenge
Sober October
Kent charity Kenward Trust is encouraging people across the county to take a break from alcohol this October, experience the benefits of an alcohol-free month and help start important conversations about alcohol, recovery and the support available.
Sober October challenges people to go alcohol-free for 31 days, providing an opportunity to reflect on their relationship with alcohol and see how making a change can affect their health, wellbeing and everyday life.
For Kenward Trust, which supports people affected by addiction, recovery is about much more than simply stopping drinking. It is about helping people rebuild their lives, reconnect with others and create new futures.
Throughout October, Kenward Trust will use the campaign as an opportunity to raise awareness of alcohol-related harm, challenge stigma surrounding addiction and recovery, and remind people across Kent that support is available.
Alcohol is deeply embedded in everyday life, from celebrations and social occasions to relaxing after work or coping with difficult experiences. However, harmful alcohol use can have a profound impact not only on the person drinking, but also on families, friends and the wider community.
Kenward Trust is therefore encouraging individuals, workplaces, community groups and supporters to consider taking on their own alcohol-free October.
Penny Williams, CEO, Kenward Trust, said:
“Taking a month away from alcohol can be a powerful opportunity to think about the role it plays in our lives. For some people, it may simply be a personal challenge. For others, it could be the beginning of a much bigger change.
“At Kenward Trust, we see the courage and determination involved in recovery every day. We also know how important it is that people feel able to talk about alcohol and addiction without judgement or shame.
“This October, we want people across Kent to join the conversation, support those in recovery and help us show that change is possible.”
Kenward Trust has been supporting people affected by addiction for decades, providing services designed to help individuals move towards recovery, independence and a more positive future.
The charity hopes Sober October will also encourage conversations among families and friends. Asking someone how they are, listening without judgement and knowing where support can be found can make an important difference.
People who choose to take part are encouraged to share their experience throughout October and help spread a positive message about recovery and healthier relationships with alcohol.
Anyone concerned about their own alcohol use, or that of someone close to them, is encouraged to seek appropriate professional advice and support. People who may be physically dependent on alcohol should seek medical advice before suddenly stopping drinking
